As you can see, there are some key differences between these two models right from the start. While there is one engine that is available for both models, the Sport starts off with more power, and has more powerful engines available. This is especially true when it comes to the Range Rover Sport SV, which comes with the high performance version of the 4.4-liter V8. This is one of only two SV models in the Land Rover lineup, the other being the full-size Range Rover, and as the smaller and lighter of the two, the Sport SV is the quickest vehicle made by Land Rover. Both the Velar and the Sport have incredible towing capacities, far exceeding anything from the competition. The Velar has more than enough capacity for most people, although the Sport does have that extra bit more, due to the fact that it’s slightly larger, which brings us to the next part.

While the Sport is clearly the larger of the two vehicles, the Velar doesn’t actually feel particularly smaller, with nearly identical head and leg room. That’s because part of the extra length on the Sport is hood, with a longer one needed to fit the larger engines available for the bigger model. That said, there are some other areas where the larger size is apparent, and makes an important distinction. Folding down the back seats gives you noticeably more cargo space in the back of the Sport. The larger size also gives the Sport the stability needed for a higher ride height, and the much higher wading depth that comes with it. In all, both vehicles have their advantages, and since both come with everything that makes the Range Rover name special, you really can’t go wrong just choosing the one with the advantages that work best for you.
